They were intended to haul the ICE trains of the 1940s. Were talking about the 55 elegant, super-fast, and powerful streamlined express steam locomotives of the class 01.10. And although little of this pomp and splendor remained after the Second World War, those in charge recognized the potential of this loco type despite its various teething problems. Between 1953 and 1956, the three-cylinder locos were fitted with new high-performance boilers and modern mixer preheaters. This resulted in super-powered steam locos that became a mainstay of premium express services. It was not uncommon for them to cover distances of 25,000 kilometers (15,500 miles) per month right up to the end of their career in 1975. This makes this legendary loco an absolute must for your model railroad fleet.
Prototype: German Federal Railroad (DB) class 01.10 express steam locomotive#with a new high-performance boiler design and a type 23 T38 tender. Black basic paint scheme with red running gear. Version without streamlined fairing. The model features silver boiler bands. Dual headlights. Witte smoke deflectors and an inductive magnet on one side. Loco road number 01 1059. The loco looks as it did after the boiler conversion around 1955/56.
Model: The loco has an mfx+ digital decoder and extensive sound functions. It also has a controlled high-performance motor with a flywheel, mounted in the boiler. Three axles driven. Traction tires. The locomotive and tender are made mostly of metal. Factory-fitted smoke generator with speed-dependent, dynamic smoke exhaust. Dual headlights change over with the direction of travel, work conventionally, and can be controlled digitally. The cab lights, firebox flickering, and running gear lights can be controlled separately in digital operation. Maintenance-free warm white and red LEDs are used for the lighting. A buffer capacitor is fitted. Close coupling with a guide mechanism between the loco and tender. Tender has a close coupler with a guide mechanism and NEM pocket. The buffer heights on the loco and tender conform to NEM specifications. The minimum radius for operation is 360 mm / 14-3/16. Protective piston sleeves and brake hoses are supplied. Length over buffers 27.7 cm / 10-7/8.
The class 01.10 with a new boiler design is the ideal steam locomotive for the D 74 Hamburg Altona - Basel SBB express train on the Frankfurt-Basel section of the route, which can be recreated using the cars from items 42491, 42533, and 42526.
A DC version of this model is available in the Trix H0 range as item 22740.
